On April 4, 2024, Andreas Kipar will be sharing his expertise in European Urban Ecology in Graz, Austria, at “StadtDialog #07; Zukunft Stadtökologie”, an event organized by the City of Graz with Haus der Architektur and Ziviltechniker:innen Steiermark & Kärnten.

With the StadtDialog Graz discussion series, the City of Graz, the Chamber of Civil Engineers for Styria and Carinthia, and the HDA—House of Architecture are focusing on urban development and inviting all interested parties to learn about and discuss important topics.

Urban ecology is a crucial area that explores the interactions between urban spaces and their natural environment. It examines how human activities – particularly the interaction between people, animals, plants and built structures such as buildings and roads – influence urban ecosystems. A particular focus is on the influence of climate, soil and water, and human interventions on biodiversity and the adaptability of various species in urban areas.Urban ecology offers valuable insights for sustainable urban planning and development. It focuses on reducing environmental pollution, promoting green spaces, improving air and water quality and adapting to climate change. Dealing with competition for land and its utilisation is also an essential aspect.

At the upcoming StadtDialog#07, LAND founder Andreas Kipar after his keynote on Urban ecology in a European context: insights and perspectives, will discuss with Markus Frewein (GF Verkehrplus GmbH), Johanna Gunczy (biologist, Universalmuseum Joanneum/Natural Science), and Christine Radl (Head of Green Space Department, City of Graz) the role and importance of urban ecosystems in relation to Graz and from a broader perspective. The focus will be on strategies and measures to promote urban ecosystems.
