Under this year’s theme Places in Transition, the Tbilisi Architecture Forum (TAF 2026) brings together leading international and regional voices from architecture, design, urbanism and culture for three days of exploring how cities, landscapes and communities can adapt to social, technological and environmental change while preserving identity.
With his work at the intersection of Green Infrastructure, Nature-Positive Cities and collaborative planning, Michael Gräf, Director at LAND Austria, lecturer at BOKU University Vienna, and certified mediator, approaches urban transformation through the lens of landscape, connecting ecological resilience with stakeholder engagement and quality of life.
On 18 September, Michael joins the opening conversation “Can Cities Become More Resilient by Working With Nature Rather Than Against It?”, alongside Paata Shanshiashvili (U.S. Department of the Interior, International Affairs Office), Giorgi Gotsiridze and Jack William Taylor (A IS FOR ARCHITECTURE). The discussion will explore how working with natural systems can become a foundation for more resilient urban development.
On 19 September, Michael will take the main stage for his keynote “The Future Grows: Landscape Thinking for a Nature Positive Future”. His contribution explores the role of landscape not simply as an outcome of urban development, but as an active framework for shaping its future, one that can connect ecological systems, communities and the built environment.
For us, this perspective is at the heart of landscape-led transformation: working with nature to create places that are more resilient, more connected and better equipped for the future.
