The project is intended as an opportunity to expand Porta Nuova’s polycentric system. It aspires to combine density and permeability, with the aim of creating a new urban space within the pedestrian path network able to connect Porta Nuova and Porta Volta, where the new Microsoft and Feltrinelli buildings arise. The area becomes part of a newly articulated urban system that is being drastically reshaped; tertiary buildings and new housing facilities are thoroughly combined and integrated with the existing ancient residential buildings and open public areas.
The plan is to link Porta Volta to the large pedestrian area of Porta Nuova. So we can ensure continuity for pedestrians and bicycles. Still, also to connect the new green areas with the ‘Library of Trees’ (the “Biblioteca degli Alberi”) and, more in general, to operate an urban regeneration With the renewal and opening up to the city of the Porta Nuova Bonnet area, these principles of fluid continuity of public space, permeability and the promotion of connections are extended to a new city block. This solution creates new horizons of development throughout the area that gravitates around Corso Como and Gae Aulenti Square.
The open spaces system of Porta Nuova Bonnet is composed of three areas:
- Blooming Promenade
- Urban Square
- Extroverted Courtyard
