At the heart of the new development lies a multifunctional public ensemble creating a harmonious dialogue between built form and green space. A renovated administrative hub, a youth and adult education center, and a flexible civic hall enrich the urban fabric and address the evolving needs of Aldenhoven’s residents, supporting social engagement, education, and cultural exchange. The compact, comb-like configuration of the new buildings ensures natural daylight and a view into the green surroundings for all interior spaces.
Landscape design plays a pivotal role in shaping the character and function of the site. Nature-based solutions are integrated throughout the public realm, including rainwater retention areas and green roofs that enhance biodiversity, regulate temperature, and manage stormwater. The gently terraced terrain behind the buildings offers accessible, nature-oriented outdoor spaces that invite recreation, relaxation, and connection. Shaded walkways, play zones, seating areas, and small ponds offer a rich spatial experience for all generations.
The use of permeable paving made from recycled materials minimizes soil sealing, while a new mobility concept prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists. A redesigned forecourt with integrated green space and bicycle parking strengthens the interface between buildings, parks, and the surrounding townscape, fostering seamless connections and encouraging slow mobility patterns.
