Learning on Site: LANDlers Formative Visit to Parco del Valentino

As part of our internal development program, our team members visited the Parco del Valentino construction site in Turin to see firsthand the transformation of this historic green space into a sustainable urban landmark.

Yesterday, a group of LANDlers visited the construction site of Parco del Valentino in Turin — a historic green space being transformed to serve both people and nature. Led by Marco Bonanno and Eleonora Boffano, the visit gave our architects a chance to see the site’s progress and explore the nature-based solutions being put into place.

We began by immersing ourselves in the park’s rich history, studying maps and key elements that showcase its evolution. Once a racetrack used by champions like Alberto Ascari in the 1950s, the park is now being reimagined as an accessible, green, and people-focused space, designed to meet the needs of the community and address climate change challenges.

Starting at the reconstructed area in front of Catesello del Valentino, we made our way to the Po River, and then ventured deeper into the site in the area of Medieval Village. As we toured the area, we observed the ongoing work and saw innovative sustainable design strategies in action. The project’s ultimate aim: to reduce vehicle traffic, eliminate car parking, and breathe new life into the park, restoring it to its rightful role as a vibrant, public, social, and natural space for everyone.

By walking the site, our architects gained valuable insights into how design choices come to life in real-world conditions, reinforcing our approach of learning directly from the landscape.
