Shaping the Future of Post-Mining Landscapes: a century task
On 3 September 2026, Andreas Kipar will participate as a speaker at the conference "From Rheinbrown to Green-Blue: The Century Task of Post-Mining Landscapes", taking place at Schloss Dyck in Jüchen, Germany.
Organized by Stiftung Die Grüne Stadt in partnership with Verband GaLaBau NRW, Stiftung Schloss Dyck, Zweckverband LANDFOLGE Garzweiler, and the Deutsche Bundesgartenschau Gesellschaft, the conference Von Rheinbraun nach Grün-Blau: Jahrhundertaufgabe Tagebaufolgelandschaft addresses one of Europe’s most significant territorial transformation processes: the future of the Rheinisches Revier as the region transitions away from coal mining by 2033.
Bringing together experts from science, business, politics and civil society, the event will explore sustainable approaches to mobility, urban and landscape planning, climate adaptation and regional development. It offers a unique platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, strategic partnerships and the exchange of practical solutions for shaping resilient and climate-friendly post-mining landscapes.
Andreas Kipar will contribute to the discussion by sharing perspectives from more than three decades of international experience in landscape-led transformation with LAND and Green City Italia. His keynote will focus on the role of landscape as a strategic infrastructure capable of guiding ecological regeneration, economic transition and social innovation, while highlighting collaborative approaches that connect design, governance and long-term territorial development.
The conference reflects a growing recognition that the transformation of former mining regions requires integrated, landscape-based strategies and strong cross-sector collaboration. By bringing together diverse expertise and experience, the event aims to advance new ideas and partnerships for the sustainable future of the Rheinisches Revier and beyond.
