Strengthening collaboration for Nature: LAND at BAFU Conference in Bern
Federico J. Scopinich, General Manager of LAND Suisse, took part in the conference “Wirkung durch Zusammenarbeit, Mehrwerte für Biodiversität und Landschaft”, organized by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) in Bern.
The event brought together representatives from public administration, research, and planning to explore how interdisciplinary collaboration can generate tangible value for biodiversity and landscape.
A shared approach to complex challenges
A key message emerging from the conference was clear: addressing today’s environmental challenges requires cooperation across sectors and disciplines. By aligning expertise from policy, science, and design, it becomes possible to unlock synergies, optimise resources, and increase the long-term impact and acceptance of environmental strategies.
Discussions throughout the day highlighted how integrated approaches can lead to more efficient processes, innovative solutions, and stronger connections between infrastructure and natural systems.
LAND’s contribution: the Airolo Valley project
During the parallel session “Bauten und Anlagen”, Federico Scopinich presented the Airolo Valley renaturation project, showcasing it as a concrete example of how infrastructure and landscape can be rethought together.
The project demonstrates how strategic interventions can:
- Enhance ecological quality
- Create new habitats
- Generate added value for local communities
- Use resources in a more intelligent and integrated way
By combining infrastructural development with landscape design, the Airolo Valley project reflects LAND’s approach to reconnecting people with nature through collaborative and forward-thinking solutions.
Collaboration as a driver for future landscapes
The conference reinforced the importance of a shared vision and collective effort in shaping resilient and livable environments. Whether through large-scale strategies or site-specific interventions, collaboration remains a key driver in advancing biodiversity and landscape quality.
