The importance of the Halstenberg Prize: a landmark for Landscape and Urban Planning
Awarded by the German Academy for Urban and Spatial Planning, the Halstenberg prize celebrates Andreas Kipar’s role in integrating ecological thinking into contemporary urbanism. A recognition that marks a broader shift in how cities integrate nature and biodiversity into the fabric of everyday life.
Andreas Kipar highlights on the website of Corriere della Sera – Pianeta 2030 the meaning of Halstenberg Prize, awarded by the German Academy for Urban and Spatial Planning (DASL): a first for a landscape architect and urban planner. This recognition signals a change in the perception of nature-based planning as a fundamental tool in urban regeneration.
Kipar’s approach prioritises the integration of green and blue infrastructure to support climate adaptation and citizen well-being. Through projects in cities like Essen, Paris, and Zurich, as well as in Riyadh with the Al Urubah Park, LAND is actively shaping spaces where nature and digital tools enhance ecological awareness.
A mission strenghtened thanks to the inauguration of LAND Research Lab GmbH in Düsseldorf, a new hub for global research into the ecological transition of cities. From removing asphalt in Torino’s Parco del Valentino to reshaping Piazzale Loreto in Milan, Kipar’s work embodies a planning culture that sees public space as essential to quality of life.
