Reconnecting People with Nature: Andreas Kipar in DAB

Following his recognition with the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2026, Kipar discusses why climate action cannot be reduced to isolated heat-mitigation measures. Instead, public space needs to be considered as an interconnected system, where biodiversity, temperature reduction, water management and depaving contribute together to long-term urban resilience.

The interview also addresses the relationship between cities and their surrounding territories, calling for a shift beyond the traditional separation between urban and rural landscapes. For Kipar, landscape should not be understood only as something to protect, but as a productive driver of transformation, capable of creating long-term value for both people and nature.
