Andreas Kipar receives the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture in Istanbul

Recognized among five international figures under this year’s theme “Architecture Is Transformation,” the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture celebrates over three decades of commitment to shaping a responsible, forward-looking approach to landscape, architecture, and urban development.

The 2026 laureates are: Andreas Kipar, Amelia Tavella, Ye Man, Doan Thanh Ha, Loreta Castro Reguera, and Jose Pablo Ambrosi.

Co-founder and CEO of LAND, Andreas Kipar has developed a distinctive design approach that addresses the complexity of fragmented territories, transforming them into coherent and connected landscapes. His work spans from urban and peri-urban green plans in cities such as Milan, Cagliari, Piacenza, and Essen, to strategic territorial frameworks across regions including the Ruhr area, the Karst Plateau, and Lake Garda.

During the ceremony, Kipar shared a personal reflection on his journey, from his origins in Germany’s industrial Ruhr region to the founding of LAND in Milan in 1990 together with Giovanni Sala, highlighting a lifelong mission to restore the relationship between people and nature. His vision, inspired by the structure of a tree, understands landscape as a living, evolving system capable of connecting places, communities, and processes over time.

“I am deeply grateful for this acknowledgement and happy to share all this positive energy with my team, the entire LAND community, all of you here today, and with everyone I have worked with. Because nothing I have done, I have done alone. And this is very important to me. Because, in the end, this is not just a job. It is a calling. A mission. A mission to cultivate – not just landscapes, but communities. And perhaps, if there’s one simple thing I’d like to leave you with, it would be this: try planting a tree, wherever you are. That small action can become the beginning of something much greater. You’ll see.” – said Andreas Kipar.
