Xiongan New Area, Hebei Province

China

The actual landscape features of the Xiongan Area are the key elements of its future development. Under the title “Beyond the city: a new urban renaissance,” we envision the Xiongan future city generated by non-built space, where blue and green infrastructures are full of opportunities.

The actual landscape features of the Xiongan Area are the key elements of its future development. Under the title “Beyond the city: a new urban renaissance,” we envision the Xiongan future city generated by non-built space, where blue and green infrastructures are full of opportunities.

Xiongan New Area, strategically positioned in Hebei province, is poised to become a pivotal component of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei capital region. As part of China’s strategic initiative, educational and research institutions will be relocated from Beijing to this burgeoning hub, positioning Xiongan to rival the significance and sophistication of Shenzhen and Shanghai Pudong. This Special Economic Zone will alleviate congestion in Beijing by shifting non-capital functions southward, thereby enhancing the region’s overall efficiency and livability.

A defining feature of Xiongan’s development is its harmonious integration with the natural landscape. The Xiongan Boot Area, overlooking the Baiyangdian wetland, a crucial ecological zone, serves as the foundation for the city’s environmentally conscious and landscape-sensitive design. This wetland not only influences the city’s layout but also fosters a sustainable approach to urban planning, underscoring Xiongan’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Xiongan’s urban blueprint emphasizes the centrality of blue and green infrastructures—water bodies and green spaces—to its planning and policy objectives. These natural elements are not merely aesthetic but critical in creating a livable and resilient city. The emphasis on nature gives Xiongan a unique identity, intertwining the urban environment with the surrounding natural landscape at the city and regional levels.

In essence, the Xiongan New Area represents a forward-thinking model for urban development, where the harmony between built and natural environments is paramount. Our approach enhances the quality of life for its inhabitants and sets a benchmark for future urban developments globally.
