AI × Nature: New Perspectives for Business and Cities
Join LAND Research Lab and the University of Wuppertal at AI Village in Hürth to explore AI-powered Natural Capital assessment. Discover the nAIture Capital in NRW research project, experience a live platform demonstration, and exchange ideas with experts from business, municipalities, research and technology.
How can Artificial Intelligence help us better understand Nature’s value and make more informed decisions for cities, infrastructure, and business?
On Wednesday, 9 December 2026, LAND Research Lab and the University of Wuppertal invite stakeholders from business, municipalities, public administration, research, and technology to explore this question at AI Village, the Innovation Campus for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Hürth (Cologne).
The event will showcase nAIture Capital in NRW, a joint research project by LAND Research Lab and the University of Wuppertal that uses artificial intelligence to assess Natural Capital across North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). By combining AI, remote sensing, geospatial data, and ecological expertise, the project aims to make the value of natural assets and selected ecosystem services more visible, supporting better-informed decisions for a climate-resilient future. The project is funded through the EFRE/JTF Programme NRW 2021–2027 by the European Union and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Natural Capital plays a vital role in the resilience of cities, infrastructure, and economic systems. Yet its value is often difficult to assess and integrate into planning and investment decisions. The nAIture Capital in NRW platform addresses this challenge by translating complex environmental data into practical insights that can help identify opportunities, inform strategic choices, and strengthen the integration of nature into development processes.
The event will offer insights into the project, a live demonstration of the platform, and an interactive panel discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to explore potential applications, discuss practical challenges, and exchange perspectives on how AI-powered Natural Capital assessment can contribute to more sustainable and resilient development in NRW.
Bringing together perspectives from business, cities, public administration, research, and technology, the event aims to foster exchange and collaboration at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Nature.
