At the masterplan’s core lies a simple conviction: the quality of public spaces directly influences the quality of life. Parks, streets, squares and green areas are not merely aesthetic elements of the urban environment. They are living infrastructures that shape how people move, meet, interact and experience their city. By strengthening these spaces, municipalities can create more attractive neighborhoods, reinforce local identity and foster healthier, more inclusive communities.
The strategy provides a comprehensive analysis of Massagno’s landscape system and identifies actions and tools to guide future development. Its objectives include creating a well-connected green network, bringing nature closer to residents, enhancing public facilities and community spaces, promoting active mobility, and leveraging nature-based solutions to address the challenges of climate change.
The vision is articulated through three complementary pillars.

Massagno Garden City recognizes the municipality’s rich natural heritage as a strategic resource for the future. Public and private green spaces are understood as a continuous ecological network capable of delivering ecosystem services, improving environmental quality and supporting climate adaptation through nature-based solutions.

Massagno Connected City views streets and mobility corridors as opportunities to strengthen public life. By enhancing pedestrian and cycling connections and reimagining streets as social spaces, the strategy creates new links between neighbourhoods, services and green areas, making the city more accessible and cohesive.
Massagno Multigenerational City builds upon the municipality’s strong network of public services and everyday amenities. With most daily needs reachable within a fifteen-minute walk, the strategy reinforces Massagno’s role as a livable, human-scale city where public space supports encounters, inclusion and wellbeing across generations.
