The project focuses on reconnecting fragmented landscapes and enhancing the natural environment across the site, which was once disjointed by the Lambro River and the imposing Tangenziale Est Milano viaduct.
At the heart of the project lies a large central green axis, known as Viale dei Platani, that serves as a green spine weaving through the residential area, encouraging pedestrian movement and community engagement. To the south, the Strolling Park extends along a newly developed road axis, designed as a space for walking and relaxation amidst lush greenery.
On the western edge, the landscaping strategy includes the Lambro River Corridor, where future plans envision a redefinition of the riverbanks with hygrophilous graminaceous and herbaceous species to bolster the area’s natural ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Tangenziale Est Milano underpass is set to be transformed with the introduction of a reflective water body, reinterpreting the viaduct’s presence and enhancing the landscape through mirrored imagery—creating an urban reflection that ties nature and infrastructure seamlessly.
The Rubattino project not only restores ecological value but also establishes a post-industrial “Central Park,” offering a model of urban regeneration that integrates nature, community spaces, and innovative environmental solutions into Milan’s suburban fabric.
