With its striking architecture and high-quality landscape, this redevelopment of the site at Haroldstraße 5 will represent a new landmark for the city of Düsseldorf. Integrated into the “Blue-Green Ring”, the project offers a variety of green space types that not only visually enhance the area, but also improve climatic conditions and serve as a green lung for the urban context. Born out of a number of earlier concepts and competitions, the idea of integrated planning between private and public space forms the basis for the development of “Green Harold Bay”. With its key position between the Rhine promenade and the core areas of the city such as the KÖ, the project will provide a valuable connection and an attractive experience for the daily flow of people in the area: the multiple features will ensure a lively atmosphere and make the park a new hotspot for the city. The focus of the landscape design is to create a continuous open space that ties in with the existing green and blue infrastructure and behaves like an extension of it, while enriching the biodiversity of the urban context. Green roofs and façades, a linear public park with recreational areas, biodiversity strips and a smooth connection to transport infrastructure, as well as an intelligent system for harvesting, storing and reusing rainwater and flood protection: all this is a vivid example of “landscape in action”.
