The strategic environmental Masterplan of Lecco is a frame of reference for projects aimed at redeveloping the area and enhancing its natural resources. A system of green and blue infrastructures through which citizens will be able to enjoy and rediscover the identity and natural values of the area.
We have conceived Lecco’s strategic environmental masterplan as a frame of reference for projects aimed at redeveloping the area and enhancing its natural resources. It is conceived as a tool for applying for European funding calls for urban and environmental regeneration in accordance with the dictates of the European Green Deal, which has placed ecological transition at the centre of the 2021-2027 programme.
In recent years, the Lecco municipal territory has been characterised by continuous evolution from all points of view: environmental, social, and economic. In this strategic phase, it is necessary to intervene with an innovative and sustainable project, where sustainability is meant as an element of balance between landscape-environmental peculiarities, economic growth, and social inclusion.
The project’s goal is to build an integrated vision that will not only preserve the area from an ecological point of view but also pave the way for social and economic well-being, offering a promising future for the Lecco community.
“Between the lake and the mountains, Lecco is rich in natural, landscape and cultural resources. However, its urban and infrastructural development has neglected its landscapes and different identities, creating a disorganised, grey city without a unified design. In today’s Lecco, nature is near but not tangible in daily life. In constructing a new image for the city, it is necessary to start by reconnecting its landscapes and structuring a network of green public spaces that unite the lake, city, hills and mountains, starting with rediscovering its rivers and 14 historic districts. A system of green and blue infrastructures through which citizens can enjoy and rediscover their area’s identity and natural values” describes Andreas Kipar, the main objectives of the masterplan. The plan is also intended to start a cultural process to increase awareness of the landscape’s value as an ecological and social infrastructure that can improve inhabitants’ and visitors’ quality of life.
