a green area nestled within a neighbourhood

The 'Avvocato Giuseppe Sala' park inaugurates at Villaggio Barona

The new multifunctional area, dedicated to the father of LAND co-founder Giovanni Sala, spans 4,500 sqm and includes 3,550 sqm of lawn, 820 sqm of permeable paving for climate resilience and 116 trees planted within the Forestami reforestation initiative. The park intends to promote shared well-being, social inclusion, and sustainable development in Barona and Milan.

The “Avv. Giuseppe Sala” Park is the new addition to the Villaggio Barona, a visionary project launched in 2003 by the Attilio and Teresa Cassoni Foundation. For the past twenty years, it has stood as a national model of urban and social regeneration, covering an area of approximately 30,000 square meters.

This was the first social housing project in Italy promoted by a private entity, and it currently hosts over 30 organizations, including associations, cooperatives, healthcare services, and commercial activities, all working toward a shared goal: fostering collective well-being and sustainable development in the Barona neighborhood and the entire city.

The new multifunctional green space, covering around 4,500 square meters and developed in collaboration with Opera in Fiore, enhances the complex’s social and environmental mission. It includes approximately 3,550 sqm of lawn and 820 sqm of permeable surfaces to promote water permeability and climate resilience.

At the heart of the park is the “Bosco Forestami”, part of the broader Milanese urban reforestation initiative, through which 116 trees have been planted.

With a focus on inclusivity, the Avv. Giuseppe Sala Park also features:

  • A dog area equipped with agility games,
  • An event space with a stage for concerts, performances, and cultural events,
  • And another green area dedicated to a teaching farm.

To further support social inclusion, the BPM Foundation helped create a multi-purpose sports court for basketball and five-a-side football, destined to become a new community hub for neighborhood residents.
