Pavia restarts from its landscape as a platform for development

Yesterday morning, a meeting was held between the Councillor for the Environment, Lorenzo Goppa, and the LAND Italia team, appointed by the municipal administration to develop the Landscape Vision for the City of Pavia, in support of the General Amendment to the Territorial Government Plan.

The study will define strategic and operational guidelines for the “renaturalization” of the city on the Ticino River, assessing the benefits provided by Natural Capital in terms of combating climate change and improving quality of life.

The agreement between the administration led by Mayor Michele Lissia and the company headed by Andreas Kipar was consolidated on Wednesday, September 10, during a meeting between several members of the Municipality of Pavia – including Councillor for the Environment Lorenzo Goppa and engineer Giovanni Biolzi – and the team of LAND Italia. The Landscape Vision will emerge from a shared commitment that begins with rediscovering the city’s Natural Capital and its territory, placing the enhancement of landscape heritage at the center of urban development.

“Across Europe, cities are rediscovering their vocation, and Pavia must be no exception, restarting from the Ticino River and the territory that surrounds it,” said Andreas Kipar, CEO of LAND. “More and more Italian municipalities are turning to their true Capital: that ecological, cultural, and identity-based landscape which becomes a catalyst for future urban development. We are excited to support the administration on this path toward a more resilient and sustainable city – a virtuous model of a Nature-Positive City, capable of ensuring citizens a high quality of life thanks to the ecosystem services provided by Nature.”

“By enhancing the Natural Capital, both present and future, of the municipal territory, it will be possible to guide planning both within the city and beyond its urban boundaries,” commented Councillor Lorenzo Goppa. “Through nature-based solutions, such as depaving – useful in countering the heat island effect – we will identify strategies for active green management aimed at increasing ecosystem services and adapting to climate change.”
