Learning by Doing, Growing by Seeding

From learning on-site to planting roots in the landscape, this spring has been a season of site visits, shared stories, and hands-on growth across LAND.

At LAND, we know that real learning doesn’t stop at a desk or switch off when the screen goes dark. It truly comes alive out in the field, side by side with colleagues, in the places where ideas turn into real projects.

That’s why we shape all kinds of growth and community moments: from group gatherings and local workshops to online learning, live talks, and in-person meetups. Each one is designed to share knowledge, spark curiosity, and keep our teams connected across countries and offices.

Every project starts with a story — and it’s important for us to give LANDlers the chance not only to take part in creating these stories but also to witness how they develop.

Our site visits invite colleagues into the heart of projects, where they can feel the energy, see the progress, and take home fresh inspiration. Because for us, learning is never just formal training is shared journey, shaped by people, places, and the stories we create together.

LANDlers Formative Site Visit to Parco del Valentino in Turin

Spring Highlights: Parco del Valentino and Vercelli

In April, a group of LANDlers visited Parco del Valentino in Turin, where a historic park is being reimagined with nature-based solutions to meet the needs of modern city life. Led by the project team, colleagues explored the site and saw up close how the team is working to balance heritage preservation with today’s ecological and social challenges: read more about this visit in the dedicated article.

Soon after, another group headed to Vercelli to explore the Garden Boulevard, a key component of the city’s ambitious Giro dei Viali Urban Regeneration Plan. This initiative aims to transform Vercelli into a greener, more connected, and resilient city by 2030. The Garden Boulevard, stretching along Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, is designed to replace asphalt with a permeable ground, green spaces, enhance biodiversity, and create safer, more social public areas.

During the visit, LANDlers were guided by Ilaria Congia, Sara Guerini, Valerio Bozzoli, and Annalisa Borgognoni, who provided insights into the project’s goals and progress. They discussed how the interventions are not only improving the urban environment but also fostering community engagement and resilience in the face of climate change.

The Masterplan encompasses a comprehensive vision for Vercelli’s future, including the creation of 100 kilometers of pedestrian and cycling paths, the renaturalization of 60 kilometers of canals, and the revitalization of 38 hectares of public space.

Back to Boscoincittà: A Living Tribute to Biodiversity

Reconnecting with nature doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes, it begins with something as simple and grounding as placing our hands back in the soil.

This year, on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, we marked the moment in a way that felt both personal and collective. A group of LANDlers in Italy gathered at Boscoincittà in Milan — a place with deep meaning, as it’s where Andreas Kipar began his journey in landscape architecture — for a day of reflection, reconnection, and regeneration.

Led by Luisa Toeschi, Gianluca Vargiu, and the dedicated volunteers of Boscoincittà, our team explored the park’s natural beauty and heard stories of its evolution. But the day wasn’t just about looking back, it was also about giving back. Together, we rolled up our sleeves and planted 30 new trees and shrubs in a clearing an area that had been damaged by recent storms.

Just a couple days later, our LANDlers in LAND Germany also planted trees for the future on our sunny terrace in Düsseldorf, led by Andreas Kipar and sharing an informal moment, underlining team work and community, but also the importance of planting for the future.

Planting seeds for future generations at LAND Germany

These visits and shared moments remind us that learning at LAND is not just about acquiring knowledge, but about experiencing it together. Whether we’re walking through a park under transformation, exploring new cityscapes, or planting trees with our own hands, each moment strengthens our shared purpose.

Because in every place we visit, we’re not just observing change — we’re part of it.
