LAND Advocates for Climate Resilience and Urban Regeneration at Green Week Milano
At LAND, our mission is to create more liveable cities that can withstand the challenges of climate crisis. During Green Week Milano, we had the opportunity to share this commitment at several events.
The first one, “Regeneration: A Garden of Ideas for a Sustainable Future,” was held Friday, 27 September, at Giardini Pippa Bacco in collaboration with the Green City Italia association. It featured a rich program of workshops, book discussions, and panels aimed at fostering ideas for a sustainable future.
Here, LAND director Giuliana Bonifati underscored the importance of depaving—a crucial strategy in urban planning to enhance climate resilience. By reducing impervious surfaces in cities, depaving mitigates urban heat islands and improves stormwater management, allowing for better water infiltration and reducing flood risks. This approach is fundamental in reshaping urban environments to become more adaptable and sustainable in a changing climate.

LAND at Green Week Milano. Event “Navigli. Vie di civiltà per un nuovo paesaggio”
On Saturday, we shifted focus from green spaces to blue infrastructure, mainly through the event “Navigli. Vie di civiltà per un nuovo paesaggio.” Andreas Kipar was invited by the Associazione Riaprire i Navigli, which aims to restore Lombardy’s historic canal system, offering a unique opportunity to reconnect the city with its waterways. By reopening the navigable canals, the initiative reimagines the city’s landscape and enhances urban mobility, public space quality, and the overall well-being of its residents.
Both initiatives we attended reflect our ongoing commitment to innovation in urban planning and our vision for resilient, sustainable, and built cities for the people who live in them. Whether it’s through depaving or revitalising blue infrastructure, we continue to pursue solutions that address the climate crisis and improve the quality of urban life.
