"Green on the ground" kicks off at Policlinico: a gift for Milan
On the occasion of the 2025 "Festa del Perdono", the Policlinico of Milan has unveiled our project that will transform the hospital complex in the coming months. The project focuses on redefining pedestrian and vehicular pathways, enhancing permeability, and replacing asphalt with a network of green spaces interwoven among the hospital buildings. This initiative is designed to integrate seamlessly with the "Giardino Terapeutico", which will soon be built above the Sforza Pavilion.
A “green road” that will spearhead the redevelopment of all existing buildings and transit areas between the hospital blocks, ensuring an unprecedented level of environmental quality.
This is the vision behind “Green on the Ground”, our project that will reshape the Policlinico by planting 100 trees, creating nearly 2,000 square meters of green space, and replacing over 3,100 square meters of impermeable surfaces with permeable, eco-friendly materials. Nature will reclaim new spaces, ensuring smooth and safe pedestrian crossings. By absorbing heat, plants will help lower average summer temperatures by up to 2°C in transit areas, while increased biodiversity will enhance the sense of well-being and healing.

Following a meeting with top religious, civic, and regional authorities, the project was presented by Andreas Kipar and officially launched with the planting of the first Lagerstroemia indica trees.
By enhancing biodiversity and strengthening the connection between humans and nature, Green on the Ground will complement the “Giardino Terapeutico”—a 7,000-square-meter elevated park situated 20 meters above ground. This space will promote patient and community well-being, featuring rehabilitation areas, meditation spaces, sensory pathways, chromotherapy zones, vegetable gardens, and connective green areas.
By reinforcing its role as a hub of technological and structural innovation, the Policlinico will also establish itself as a leader in environmental wellness, creating a holistic healthcare system immersed in a high-quality, resilient natural ecosystem.
