A Story of Climate Justice and Nature-Based Solutions

Bringing Climate Justice to Life: How Storytelling and Nature-Based Solutions Inspire Action. LAND Research Lab Member Lorenzo Pirosa Co-Creates Comic.

At LAND, we believe that storytelling has the power to inspire action and bring complex ideas to life. That’s why we are thrilled to celebrate the work of Lorenzo Pirosa, a valued member of our LAND Research Lab, whose creative talents have brought a powerful message of climate justice to audiences worldwide.

Lorenzo, alongside co-creator Deianira D’Antoni, has co-authored the comic A Polar…ising Issue. This engaging story was recognized as part of the second edition of the NBS Comic initiative, a project promoted by The Nature of Cities and funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under NetworkNature EU.

A Polar…ising Issue tells the story of Orsa, a determined polar bear who embarks on a journey south to save her Arctic community from the devastating effects of climate change. Along the way, Orsa discovers the critical role of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in mitigating and adapting to the challenges posed by rising temperatures, melting ice, and extreme weather.

Through this imaginative narrative, the comic highlights how restoring ecosystems, planting trees, and protecting habitats can play a vital role in reducing risks like flooding, heat, and pollution. Combining science and storytelling, Lorenzo and Deianira shine a spotlight on the urgency of adopting NBS to safeguard both local communities and the planet.

This inspiring project exemplifies the LAND Research Lab’s mission to explore innovative approaches to landscape design and sustainability while fostering collaboration across disciplines.

We invite you to read the comic and join Orsa on her journey toward climate justice. Explore A Polar…ising Issue here: Read the comic.

Congratulations to Lorenzo, and thank you for reminding us of the power of creativity and collaboration in shaping a better future for all.
