E.ON: towards a Nature-Positive Future
Italy
A forest is more than the sum of its trees. It is a living ecosystem that evolves over time, supporting biodiversity, storing carbon, improving air quality, managing water and contributing to healthier living environments.

An overview of the Boschi E.ON initiative across Italy: since 2011, 70 forests have been established, with over 150,000 trees planted and more than 41 species contributing to biodiversity, ecosystem restoration and a greener Italy.

E.ON Sustainability and Nature Strategy | The E.ON Forests initiative within E.ON's broader environmental strategy, connecting biodiversity protection, climate action and ecosystem restoration with EU Taxonomy objectives and corporate sustainability commitments.

Natural Capital Assessment Framework | LAND's methodology translates E.ON Forests' environmental objectives into measurable KPIs, assessing biodiversity, air quality, climate mitigation and water management to forecast Nature-Positive impacts towards 2030 and 2050.

Natural Capital Accounting – Gaggiano Forest | An example of LAND's Natural Capital Accounting assessment, quantifying the projected benefits of an E.ON Forest in Gaggiano by 2050, including carbon storage, oxygen production, air purification, shading and stormwater management.

Biodiversity Assessment and Nature Intelligence | LAND's assessment of 20 representative E.ON Forests, covering 36.2 hectares, 42,880 trees and shrubs, and 60 botanical species. Ten selected forests are featured on Ecoverse, LAND's Nature Intelligence platform, enabling the exploration and monitoring of their ecosystem performance over time.

Building on this vision, E.ON Italia and LAND are working together to make the long-term benefits of E.ON Forests visible and measurable, recognising Nature as a valuable form of Natural Capital.
Since 2011, the E.ON Forests initiative has led to the creation of 70 forests and the planting of over 150,000 trees across Italy. Today, the project goes beyond tree planting, focusing on understanding, quantifying and monitoring the ecosystem services these forests provide over time.
Through Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) and digital landscape modelling tools such as LIM landscape information modelling®, LAND has analysed 20 representative forests, assessing their habitats, ecological conditions and ecosystem services through measurable indicators.
Of these, 10 forests are also featured on Ecoverse, LAND’s Nature Intelligence platform, which allows users to explore each site and visualise how its trees, ecological characteristics and ecosystem services evolve over time.
