New construction updates from Riyadh show 75 hectares of landscape coming to life, as planted areas, winding paths, the green amphitheatre and Thomas Schönauer’s Wave Walls mark new milestones for Al Urubah Park and the Green Riyadh program.
Al Urubah Park is entering a new phase of transformation. The latest construction photos reveal 75 hectares of Nature taking root in Riyadh, from newly planted areas and winding paths to the green amphitheatre that will become part of the park’s public life.
The project is part of the Green Riyadh program, where nature, resilience, culture and public space come together at a new urban scale. Alongside the landscape works, Thomas Schönauer’s 12-metre Wave Walls sculpture is also taking shape ahead of its installation within the park, adding a cultural layer to the evolving public landscape.
In his reflection on the project, Andreas Kipar recalls the German idea of the Volkspark: not as a style to copy, but as a principle. A park conceived as a public landscape where nature, recreation, culture and everyday life meet, open to people and designed for shared use.
For Al Urubah Park, the challenge is to reinterpret this idea for Riyadh: its climate, culture and extraordinary scale. The belief remains the same: public landscape has the power to bring people and Nature together.
