From sustainable to Nature-Positive
At the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Andreas Kipar joined the Committee for Urban Development to discuss why cities need to move beyond sustainability and adopt Nature-Positive strategies that make urban places more resilient, liveable and ecologically regenerative.
On invitation of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Andreas Kipar joined an exchange with the Committee for Urban Development, bringing LAND’s perspective on the future transformation of cities in response to climate change.
The meeting also marked a continuity in the dialogue around urban transformation: 20 years ago, the same venue hosted one of the exhibitions dedicated to the Raggi Verdi project, reflecting LAND’s long-standing commitment to rethinking the relationship between cities, public space and Nature.

The core message of the discussion was the need for a shift from “sustainable” to “Nature-Positive”. Sustainability remains important, but it is no longer sufficient if cities are to face the scale of today’s urban and environmental challenges. The task is not only to reduce negative impacts, but to actively shape places that are more resilient, more liveable and ecologically regenerative.
The heat summer of 2026 makes this perspective especially urgent. Rising temperatures are showing how strongly cities need new approaches to public space, soil and vegetation. Depaving, greening and a renewed relationship between city and Nature are no longer secondary topics, but essential conditions for climate adaptation and urban quality.

The key question is how to translate this awareness into concrete action: from strategies and public debate to planning processes, investments and projects capable of reconnecting people with Nature.
