Ringpromenade, Bolzano

Italy

With the Ringpromenade, a 30-kilometre circuit encircling Bozen/Bolzano, the city is evolving from a Nature-positive City to a Nature-positive Landscape—a cityscape that is livable, well-connected to its surroundings, and offers broad access to the values that nature, shaped by centuries of cultivation, provides.

The Ringpromenade is a transformative project resulting from the Green Plan, approved in 2022, which aims to enhance the accessibility of Bozen/Bolzano’s natural and cultural landscapes. In collaboration with Ingena s.r.l., we have developed an approximately 30-kilometre route that will connect diverse areas around the city, creating a continuous loop of walking and cycling paths.

The circuit is divided into 12 themed sections, each with its own unique character and highlights. These include historical trails, forested slopes, and panoramic viewpoints, bringing together a number of existing infrastructures as the Guncina and St. Oswald promenades, and the main centres of recreational and cultural interest as the Colle and Firmiano Castle. Designed to be flexible, the route can be experienced in parts or as a whole, making it accessible for various users.

In addition to landscape design, LAND created the logo and branding for the Ringpromenade, reinforcing its identity as an inviting green space that encourages exploration, connection, and environmental appreciation.

The Ringpromenade will feature essential amenities—picnic areas, seating, drinking fountains, and clear wayfinding signage—to enhance the visitor experience and promote leisurely exploration. By connecting existing paths with new sections, the project revitalises the network of trails, showcasing the city’s commitment to sustainability and biodiversity. This initiative is a significant step from a nature-positive city to a nature-positive landscape that seamlessly integrates with the urban fabric, fostering a long-term vision for public space enhancement and environmental improvement through public and private collaborations.

The project, which will last five years and begin in 2025, will set a new standard for urban green spaces in Bozen/Bolzano.
