Med-IREN is a Horizon Europe-funded research and innovation project aimed at transforming climate-vulnerable infrastructures through the integration of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) into grey infrastructure systems. Targeting the Mediterranean, Black Sea, and Boreal regions, the project demonstrates how enabling conditions can support large-scale adaptation and replication of green-grey hybrid models. A high-end digital twin is developed to guide decision-making processes and enhance resilience.
The project focuses on five “lighthouse” regions across the Mediterranean, with interventions replicated in four other EU regions. Solutions adopt a holistic approach, benefiting both local communities and key sectors operating in climate “hot-spot” zones.
LAND contributes to the project by supporting diagnosis, prioritization, and implementation phases, while evaluating critical infrastructures and enabling conditions. Through data-driven methodologies and stakeholder engagement, LAND fosters the sustainable integration of NBS, ensuring measurable environmental and socio-economic benefits at regional and international levels.
