GreenInCities transforms urban environments through Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), advanced technologies, and participatory urban planning. The project integrates AI, data-driven models, and neuroscience to enhance climate adaptation, mitigate urban heat islands, and foster resilient, community-driven green infrastructure in European cities.

Funded by the European Commission, GreenInCities is an EU-wide initiative that combines Nature-Based Solutions, AI, and immersive technologies to redefine urban sustainability. The project engages 29 international partners across 11 European cities, testing NBS-driven regeneration strategies for climate adaptation and community resilience.

GreenInCities follows a Leader-Follower model, where five Leader Cities (Barcelona, Prato, Nova Gorica, Athens, Helsinki) pilot urban greening interventions, while six Follower Cities (Pécs, Reykjavik, Cork, Matosinhos, Hersonissos, Birstonas) adapt and scale these solutions through knowledge-sharing frameworks.

LAND contributes by designing, implementing, and evaluating NBS, guiding local interventions through workshops, digital models, and participatory urban planning. The initiative promotes green public spaces, mitigates urban heat islands, and enhances biodiversity. Key outputs include the GreenInCities Sustainable Renaturing Toolbox and Guidelines for Climate Plan Integration, providing scalable solutions for cities facing climate challenges.

GreenInCities is at the forefront of the New European Bauhaus, merging ecological innovation with social inclusion and digital transformation. By leveraging data-driven insights, AI, and neuroscience, the project creates resilient urban models that prioritize human and non-human well-being.

With its evidence-based frameworks, GreenInCities offers a replicable blueprint for sustainable urban planning, fostering cross-sector collaboration between governments, academia, businesses, and citizens to shape climate-resilient, nature-positive cities.
