The proposal envisioned a new address for all Düsseldorf residents and the world, a place that will continue Germany’s musical tradition and strengthen and influence cultural exchange for generations to come.
The design of the open spaces has three core elements: it creates a connection to nature, it brings biodiversity and it creates public open space for the people of Düsseldorf and visitors. In short, it is a gift – a gift to people by giving them space to experience, linger and grow. A gift to nature by giving it space to grow, flourish and reclaim what we have taken from it for so long.
The architecture is not limited to its proximity to the city’s most important garden (Hofgarten), but nature spreads out and intertwines with the building. In this case, architecture and nature have merged. In the landscape there is no distinction between the natural and the built structures. It is therefore by no means merely a design gesture, but a translation of nature into biophilic design. The road, Heinrich-Heine-Allee, is widened into a boulevard for pedestrians and cyclists.
