Wittenberg Luthergarten overflows with fruit
This symbol of dialogue, unity, and spirituality, and also vibrant place of biodiversity, is experiencing an unusually large fruit harvest this year. Residents are encouraged to help harvest, reaffirming the vocation of this garden as a resource for the local community.
Since 2008, when LAND designed the Wittenberg Luthergarten with trees from around the world, nature has flourished here, making this place a powerful symbol of cooperation.
At the moment, the trees are heavy with apples, plums, and other varieties of fruit. However, without the usual help from local schoolchildren—whose teachers are currently unavailable to coordinate the harvest—much of it risks rotting on the ground.
That is why we support the message of Anna Kraus of the Lutheran World Federation, who oversees the garden and is urging residents to collect what they can for personal use. “Otherwise, the healthy fruit, which is very expensive in stores, will simply go to waste,” she explained.
To prevent this, juice makers, fruit farmers, and social initiatives could help distribute the harvest to people in need, thus respecting the original identity of this place dedicated to the benefit of local community.
