Trieste first city in Europe for development – European City 2022
Trieste first city in Europe for development: the Porto Vecchio project and the reconversion of the Ferriera were decisive in winning first place as 'European City 2022'.
From today, Trieste is European City 2022 and with it Landscape Development and Reconnection to Nature! A first place drawn up by the Academy of Urbanism commission. The ceremony took place in London in the English National Ballet – Mulryan Centre premises, certifying the value of the projects and urban transformation the city has undergone in recent years.
The judging panel visited Trieste in September to assess the city based on seven criteria: Leadership and Governance, Local Character, Attractiveness, Commercial Success and Feasibility, Environmental Sustainability, Community, Health and Well-Being, and Connectivity.
As Deputy Mayor Tonel said from London: “Development and the ability to create opportunities were recognised. With the Examining Committee that visited Trieste in September, we have highlighted many aspects related to the redevelopment of the city, first and foremost ‘Porto Vivo’ (the project related to Porto vecchio), but also the Servola area and many other projects affecting Trieste. We have focused on the sustainability of mobility, on the multicultural and cosmopolitan tradition. We left an impression on those who had to evaluate the applications; evidently, Trieste knows how to leave its mark and remains in the heart once seen.”
Trieste and Porto Vecchio are set to redefine the concept of a city waterfront, placing ‘Landscape First ‘. This innovative approach, rooted in history, culture, and nature, promises a future of sustainability and optimism for the city.
