StreetRevival: Reimagining European Public Spaces
The Horizon Europe initiative, funded under the New European Bauhaus program, launches an €8.5million project to transform European public spaces through co-designed street furniture. Within the international consortium, LAND contributes to the Nature-Positive regeneration of Piazza Roma in Bologna.
A new European research and innovation project is underway to rethink one of the most familiar elements of urban life: the street. StreetRevival, a 42-month Horizon Europe Innovation Action funded under the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative, officially launched in Thessaloniki on 2–3 September, bringing together 21 partners from nine European countries to explore how co-designed, sustainable and smart street furniture can help transform public spaces.
Led by the Information Technologies Institute of CERTH, the €8.5 million initiative will work with local communities across four pilot sites in Murcia, Helsinki, Bologna and Nicosia, combining participatory design with digital technologies including AI-driven generative design, ergonomic scanning and lifecycle assessment. More than 50 pieces of place-based street furniture will be co-created, while a €400,000 open call will support European SMEs and innovators in developing solutions for real-world urban environments.

In Bologna, LAND is working with ASP Città di Bologna, LAMA Impresa Sociale and EUROFORM to support the regeneration of Piazza Roma. Drawing on LAND’s expertise in Nature-Based Solutions and Healing Landscapes, the project will explore how landscape can help make the square greener, healthier and more inclusive.
For us, StreetRevival reflects a broader ambition: to turn landscape and nature into active tools for urban regeneration, connecting ecological thinking with culture, social innovation and technology to create cities that are more resilient, welcoming and alive.
