Paesaggi-Percorsi, preface by Andreas Kipar

In the preface of Paesaggi-Percorsi - a volume edited by Catherine Dezio, Giovanni Giacomello, Anna Lei & Mario Paris - Andreas Kipar reflects on how landscape is a cultural and natural infrastructure that provides benefits beyond its original purpose or site, as it represents a common good for all of us and for future generations.

In our contemporary society, landscape is not merely an aesthetic background; it is inseparably linked to the city and to every space in which we walk and live. In this perspective, landscape becomes a living infrastructure that allows us to rediscover and reclaim places once forgotten, while reconnecting local communities and social dynamics.

This reappropriation cannot take place without considering the natural corridors and the elements of connection that link what has been built to what already existed in nature: landscape is the infrastructure that stitches us back together with Nature.

Although we traditionally tend to think that structures such as hospitals or sports centres are not part of the landscape, today we increasingly understand infrastructure not only as large technological networks, but also as parks, cycle paths and river corridors. In this way, landscape becomes the starting point rather than the final outcome of the design process, acting as a social connector for the people who inhabit these spaces.

This is what we refer to as blue-green infrastructure: innovative systems for managing water and other natural elements, capable of mitigating the effects of climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and strengthening communities.

For this reason, Andreas Kipar has gladly accepted the invitation to write the preface to a scientific contribution that serves as a political, economic, and operational tool, in line with the European Green Deal, the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and relevant national and international policies.
