Parco della Giustizia in Bari, New Relationship between Great Public Institution and Citizens

The new Park of Justice in Bari will rise in the area of the former Barracks in the Carrassi district, designed according to criteria of environmental, social, and economic sustainability to regenerate a substantial portion of the city.

The new Park of Justice in Bari, the outcome of a competition organised by the Agenzia del Demanio, is a joint project of ATELIER(S) ALFONSO FEMIA, PROGER s.p.a. and MAGNANIMO INGEGNERI ASSOCIATI S.R.L with LAND. It will rise in the area of the former Barracks in the Carrassi district, designed according to criteria of environmental, social, and economic sustainability to regenerate a substantial portion of the city.

It will include the headquarters of the courts and the Public Prosecutor’s Office and a park, which will occupy 75 per cent of the entire project area. Much more than a ‘green lung’, the real soul of the metamorphosis, the park is intended to be a place for intergenerational aggregation, profoundly Mediterranean and consistent with Bari’s identity.

This project establishes a new relationship between the public institution and the citizens, offering a large green and blue space where the buildings are harmoniously integrated. An external and a central part is held together by a large loop path that passes close to the buildings, creating cohesion and uniqueness. Inside the park, a large lake represents a piece of sky to unite the great elements where architecture, subsoil, and soil meet.

The lake in the Park’s centre

The Parco della Giustizia is not just a public space, but a hub of activity. Its outer strip, designed to blend with the urban context, becomes a vibrant place for the public to engage in sports, events, and games. A large natural heart at the park’s centre creates a sense of spaciousness, making the landscape feel expansive and natural.

The presence of the large lake becomes a symbolic element in the broader sense of the reconnection between humans and nature, for an immersion in an environment in which water reflects the beauty and sky of Puglia.
