LAND at Biennale Architettura 2021 in Venice
LAND arrives in Venice for the Biennale Architettura 2021 with three events to investigate the relationship between cities and water, the importance of people-oriented landscape and sustainable development.
During the Biennale Architettura 2021, Andreas Kipar shared LAND’s research on “Water-Based Cities,” which is included in the book Tempodacqua, coordinated and presented by Alfonso Femia.
The book is a three-part narrative journey that addresses the actions to be taken regarding water, the first and most severe sentinel of climate change, and respect for the future through architecture. Six actions have been identified, analyzing and combining academic and scientific research, informative content, and authoritative testimonies.
LAND’s work investigates the importance of water as an activator of public space. The research analyzes three cities and their different relationships with water: Milan, Genoa, and Essen. The complete work was presented for the first time at the Pisa Biennale in 2019 and is now published in the book that was presented at the “On Time and Water” symposium organized by Alfonso Femia, held on 13 July 2021 in the Italian Pavilion of the 17th Biennale Architettura di Venezia.
On 14 July 2021, a conference was held within the NAAD Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design specialization course at the IUAV in Venice. In this context, Andreas Kipar explained to the students the importance of creating sustainable development projects for a healthier environment. One of the cornerstones of LAND is reconnecting people with nature by creating liveable spaces that improve people’s physical and mental well-being.
The third appointment Andreas Kipar attended, was on Saturday, 17 July. He spoke about LAND’s commitment to sustainable development together with Alfonso Femia, Giulio Cappellini (entrepreneur and designer) and Massimo Iosa Ghini (architect and designer) in the round table “The sustainable vision” organized by VID Venice Innovation Design on the island of San Servolo, the island that will experience a transformation process towards a more sustainable future.
The initiative focused on sustainability, environmental protection, and innovation. Architects, designers, and entrepreneurs intervened on the issues, assisted by seven startups (Altaii, Ananas Anam, Biofaber, Keeplife, Krill Design, Phononic Vibes, and Ricehouse) committed to developing new biomaterials.
