Andrea Bulloni at YACademy: The Transformation of Cities
For the fifth consecutive year, Andrea Bulloni, Director at LAND Italia, joined YACademy’s Architecture for Landscape course in Milan. This year’s lesson explored how urban space has evolved in response to social, environmental and cultural changes, from theoretical reflections to contemporary examples across the city.
On September 23, for the fifth consecutive year, Andrea Bulloni, Director at LAND Italia, joined YACademy‘s course Architecture for Landscape in Bologna, leading a lesson dedicated to the transformation of cities and the evolution of urban space.
The lesson began with a theoretical reflection on how cities have progressively adapted to changing social, environmental and cultural conditions. The work of authors including William H. Whyte, Kevin Lynch and Jane Jacobs provided a starting point for looking at the relationship between people and the urban environment.
The discussion then moved towards the contemporary city with a focus on Milan and two emblematic areas: Piazzale Lodi and the Porta Nuova project. Through these examples, Andrea explored how changes in the way we live, move and experience cities can influence the transformation of urban spaces.
The lesson brought together theoretical references and concrete examples, offering students an opportunity to look at the city as an evolving environment and to consider the different factors that shape its transformation over time.
The programme will continue on October 5 with a session dedicated to urban and environmental biodiversity, exploring the role of ecological corridors through the Montréal Biodiversity Corridor and other projects developed within LAND’s work.
