Milano Green Week: NBS Day at Politecnico di Milano, Campus Bovisa Durando
A guided visit through the evolving landscape of Campus Bovisa Durando, exploring how Nature-based Solutions can transform water, public space and everyday urban life.
On 10 June 2026, during Milano Green Week, Montana S.p.A. together with the Politecnico di Milano will open the Campus Bovisa Durando to a guided visit dedicated to Nature-based Solutions (NbS). As LAND has been involved in project since 2022, Shirly Mantin will take part in the initiative as invited contributor representing LAND, alongside Montana S.p.A. and Laura Gatti.
The visit will offer participants the opportunity to explore the ongoing transformation of the campus through a guided walk across its outdoor spaces. The initiative will be conceived as an open-air reading of design and ecological processes, highlighting how environmental strategies are being progressively integrated into everyday academic life.
This project focuses on the regeneration of outdoor areas through the reduction of impermeable surfaces and the introduction of permeable pavements, green areas, and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS). These interventions are part of a broader Nature-based Solutions approach aimed at improving stormwater management, currently fully directed into the sewer system.
By rethinking ground permeability and integrating vegetation with drainage infrastructure, the project contributes to reducing hydraulic risk, decreasing runoff volumes, and enhancing the ecological performance of the site, while also improving biodiversity and the usability of public spaces.
The visit will offer not only the opportunity to experience first-hand the transformation underway at Campus Bovisa Durando, but also a moment for exchange and dialogue around themes that are central to LAND’s research and practice. Bringing together researchers and companies engaged in innovative approaches to urban regeneration, the event will create new opportunities to strengthen existing collaborations – including with realities such as Montana S.p.A. – and foster connections around shared visions for more resilient and landscape-driven urban environments.
