Innovative Natural Capital as core economic driver in the urban realm
Nikolas Neubert reflects on the LAND Research Lab´s innovative approaches leveraging Natural Capital and AI for transformative urban planning.
In a recent interview with Unabhängige Immobilien Redaktion in Vienna, Nikolas Neubert, Chief Innovation Officer and Managing Director of the LAND Research Lab, explains how LAND is pioneering a new understanding of Natural Capital as a measurable and productive force in urban environments.
Rather than seeing Nature as a passive backdrop, LAND applies advanced AI-driven analysis and ecosystem-service valuation to uncover the tangible economic and social value of green spaces—such as cooling effects, water management, and improved air quality. Signaling a transition from compensation to (digital) transformation, this approach helps cities and investors make better decisions, shifting from traditional models of compensation toward creating positive, regenerative landscapes that actively enhance urban resilience.
With the Research Lab in Düsseldorf, we continue to explore the intersection of digital innovation, sustainability, and spatial design—turning data and nature into powerful tools for shaping the cities of the future.
