How can Nature redefine the future of our cities?
On the podcast Unfiltered Dialogues, through key regenerative projects Andreas Kipar highlights how urban Nature is fundamental to human wellbeing—and the key to shaping our tomorrow.
In this episode of Unfiltered Dialogues, Andreas Kipar takes listeners on a journey across places, experiences, and visions, showing how nature can become the driving force of sustainable transformation. From Saudi Arabia to Ukraine, with Milan as a pivotal stop, his story revolves around a simple yet powerful idea: soil, water, and people form the true foundation of the cities of the future.
The conversation begins in Riyadh, with Al Urubah Park. Kipar explains the challenge of creating a living, breathing park in such a harsh climate—an endeavor that goes beyond urban greenery and touches on the very survival of the city. His design philosophy emerges clearly: “soil as body, water as soul, green as dress.”
The dialogue expands on the role of technology, stressing that digital tools and artificial intelligence should not replace Nature but support it. For Kipar, this evolution leads towards what he calls the “nature economy,” where cities can flourish by reconnecting with their ecological roots. This connection between green space and health is particularly evident in Milan, where the new Policlinico hospital integrates nature as a core element of healing and human well-being.
The narrative becomes personal when it recalls the founding of LAND, the company he created that has grown from a design studio into an international platform combining practice, research, and education through the LAND Academy. It is a path that led Kipar from being a gardener to becoming a global landscape architect.
A particularly moving moment comes with Mykolaiv, a Ukrainian city devastated by war. Here, landscape architecture is not only about rebuilding physical spaces but also about supporting emotional resilience and fostering a regenerative future for the community.
As the episode draws to a close, the architect emphasizes that landscape is an investment—not only financial but also emotional and cultural. It is a long-term commitment that gives back value to people and territories. His reflections leave a lasting message: the cities of tomorrow will only be truly resilient if they can reestablish an authentic relationship with Nature.
