Companies as agents of Nature production
In response to the escalating climate crisis, the Nature-Factory Manifesto calls on companies to act as agents of Nature production. On the Sustainable Switzerland platform, Andreas Kipar highlights its forward-looking vision for integrating nature into urban and industrial development.
Faced with extreme weather, biodiversity loss, and economic fragility, the Nature-Factory Manifesto unveiled at the 2025 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos calls for a paradigm shift in business planning and urban thinking. Nature is no longer a backdrop—it is a Capital, and cities are crucial arenas for this transformation.
As explained by Andreas Kipar, the manifesto proposes five guiding principles:
-
Focus on cities and wide urban ecosystems
-
Foster urban development through natural richness
-
Position businesses as agents of natural production
-
Promote public-private partnerships for biodiversity and ecosystem restoration
-
Measure progress through natural capital accounting
These principles mark a move from short-term profit toward long-term, measurable value creation, rooted in ecological balance. With practical strategies and a call for alliances across sectors, the manifesto positions the economy not just as a contributor but as a catalyst for Nature-Positive cities.
